Katey Sagal is returning to Fox, the network where she rose to fame, with a recurring role in the second season of Best Medicine. According to Deadline, she will play Kathleen Gavin, the estranged mother of Abigail Spencer's character, Louisa.

Kathleen is portrayed as a combative and self-serving figure whose unexpected return to the Maine town of Port Wenn throws Louisa's life into turmoil. Martin Best, played by Josh Charles, soon discovers why the townspeople refer to Kathleen as “Shady Katie.”

Sagal became widely known for playing Peg Bundy on Married... with Children, which ran for 11 seasons on Fox before ending in 1997. She later voiced Teela in Futurama, which originally aired on the network from 1999 to 2003, and continued in the role through later revivals. Her most recent Fox appearance before Best Medicine was a guest role on Brooklyn Nine-Nine nearly a decade ago.

The actress is also known for starring in Sons of Anarchy and playing Dan Conner's love interest and eventual wife on ABC's The Conners. Her more recent credits include One Piece, The Abandons, and Carousel. She was also reported earlier this year to be executive producing and starring alongside Jane Lynch in a new NBC comedy.

Best Medicine stars Charles as Martin Best, a surgeon who leaves the city to work as a general practitioner in a small fishing town in Maine. In its second season, Martin deals with his feelings for schoolteacher Louisa while facing scrutiny from the state medical board over his unconventional medical practices.

The series also features Annie Potts, Josh Segarra, Cree, Stephen Spinella, and Jason Veasey. Season 2 newcomers include Andrea Martin, playing an eccentric friend of Aunt Sarah, and Jack Cutmore-Scott as Parker, a potential romantic interest for Louisa.

Best Medicine became an immediate success for Fox after its debut earlier this year. Its premiere reached 12.6 million multiplatform viewers, and the network renewed the series for a second season before the first season had ended. After Season 1 was added to Netflix, it exceeded 1.6 billion viewing minutes.

New episodes of Best Medicine Season 2 air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox and are available to stream on Hulu the following day.
