Marvel Comics has revisited Darth Vader’s most memorable Rogue One moment with Star Wars: Rogue One — Darth Vader, a canonical one-shot written by Christopher Condon and illustrated by Luke Ross. Published on October 28, the special serves as a prequel to the 2016 film and gives Vader a new scene built around his overwhelming connection to the dark side.

The story follows Director Orson Krennic’s failed negotiations with Harreld, a planet whose leader, Harqque, refuses to let the Empire mine its rare kyber deposits for the Death Star’s superlaser. After Emperor Palpatine learns of Krennic’s failure, he sends Vader to obtain the kyber by any means necessary.

The comic’s violent sequence is designed to complement the hallway scene from Rogue One, in which Vader cuts through a squad of Rebel soldiers in a red corridor while trying to recover the stolen Death Star plans. That film sequence became one of the character’s most memorable and frightening displays of power.

Rogue One was released in 2016 as the first Star Wars anthology film and a prequel to the original 1977 movie. It starred Felicity Jones, Diego Luna and Ben Mendelsohn, with James Earl Jones returning as Vader’s voice. The film earned $1 billion worldwide and later led to the prequel series Andor, which aired on Disney+ from 2022 to 2025.

The one-shot is part of Marvel’s collection of specials marking Rogue One’s tenth anniversary. A canon trade paperback gathering the anniversary stories focused on Cassian Andor, Jyn Erso, Saw Gerrera, Chirrut and Baze, and Darth Vader is scheduled for February 2, 2027, with pre-orders available.
