The 2020s have been a profitable stretch for Pokémon card collectors, and a price-ranked rundown of the decade's ten most valuable chase cards shows just how far the market has climbed. The first set of the decade was the Sword & Shield base set, which arrived in February 2020. Since then the Pokémon TCG has worked through the entire Sword & Shield era and the Scarlet & Violet era, and is now midway through the Mega Evolution era. The list draws from all three.

Only English cards that can be pulled from Pokémon TCG packs were considered, and promos were excluded because the focus is on major chase cards. Several older entries are no longer being printed, a factor that helps push their prices upward. Values cited come from TCGplayer.com.

At number ten is Mega Gengar ex (284/217), a Special Illustration Rare from the Ascended Heroes expansion, which launched in January 2026 and remains in print. Artist danciao depicted a massive Mega Gengar emerging from swirling, Halloween-colored clouds. The card currently sits at a market value of $711, though it previously pushed past the $1,000 mark.

Ninth is Giratina V (186/196), an Alternate Full Art Ultra Rare from Lost Origin, released in September 2022. Most cards in that set are not worth much, but the Legendary Pokémon is the outlier at $822. Shinji Kanda's artwork places Giratina against an abstract backdrop of black, red and bronze patterns.

Gengar VMAX (271/264) takes eighth. The Alternate Art Secret Rare comes from Fusion Strike, released in November 2021, a set that also holds Espeon VMAX and Mew VMAX. Artist sowsow gave the card a more cartoonish look than Mega Gengar ex, and its market price of $825 edges just past Giratina V.

Seventh is Mew ex (232/091), a Special Illustration Rare from Paldean Fates, which hit shelves in January 2024. The card shows a shiny Mew hovering over a pond inside a giant bubble, designed by USGMEN, and collectors have nicknamed it "Bubble Mew." It is valued at $842.

Umbreon ex (161/131) lands sixth and is the first entry to break $1,000. The Special Illustration Rare comes from Prismatic Evolutions, released in January 2025, a set that became highly sought after because Eevee and its evolutions received Special Illustration Rares. Artist YASHIRO Nanaco placed Umbreon in front of a giant sun, and collectors have called it "Sunbreon," framing it as a spiritual successor to Evolving Skies' Umbreon VMAX. Its market value is $1,070.

Fifth is Rayquaza VMAX (218/203), an Alternate Art Secret Rare from Evolving Skies, released in August 2021. The set earned the nickname "Evolving Cries" for its poor hit rates, which helped lift the value of its chase cards. Anesaki Dynamic's artwork shows the Legendary Pokémon dwarfing mountain peaks, and the card is worth $1,242.

Umbreon VMAX (215/203) is fourth at $2,210 and is described as the most valuable card in Evolving Skies. Known as "Moonbreon," it features artwork by KEIICHIRO ITO and is worth more than double the price of Sunbreon.

The top three places all belong to a single Pokémon. Third is Mew (G/RGB), one of three RGB Rares from the 30th Celebration special set, released in September 2026 as a celebration of Pokémon's 30th anniversary. The RGB Rare is a new rarity that features only Mew, with one card for each color of RGB, all designed by YOSHIROTTEN. The set has strong hit rates for nearly every card except the RGB Rares. The green Mew is the cheapest of the three at $3,551.

Second is Mew (B/RGB), the blue variation, which carries identical artwork in a different colorway and is valued at $4,151, roughly $600 more than the green version.

Top of the list is Mew (R/RGB), the red variation, at $4,679. The gap between the blue and red versions is as substantial as the one between green and blue, despite the three cards being fundamentally the same release.
