Dynamite Entertainment's relaunched X-Files comic is heading into its second chapter this January, with Mulder and Scully taking on a case that the publisher describes as their biggest mystery yet. The first issue of the new series arrives on December 9, 2026, and by the time The X-Files #2 lands on January 13, 2027, the duo's mission to get the truth out there is set to become considerably more complicated.
According to Dynamite's solicitation for the second issue, the story opens with social media reports of young people manifesting strange telekinetic powers. Mulder and Scully set out to debunk what looks like another urban legend, only to discover they are not the only ones investigating. A shadowy group of neo-conspirators takes an interest in the same cases, and the solicitation hints that there may be more of these "gifted" individuals — and that the origin of their powers is extraterrestrial in nature.
The new series is written by Joseph Harris, whose credits include The X-Files: Season 10 at IDW Publishing and Marvel's Bishop: The Last X-Man, with art by R.D. Brown. Dynamite has also announced a lineup of variant covers for the second issue, including work by Clayton Crain, Ivan Tao and Charlie Adlard, alongside the eerie alien-themed main cover.
Dynamite's description of the broader arc points to a threat with reach far beyond a single case. The publisher says the alien menace has metastasized, with shadowy figures inside the government plotting alongside powerful special interests outside it in a race to secure "alien" secrets tied to biology, disease and even everlasting life, leaving Mulder and Scully caught between the unbelievable and a seemingly miraculous truth. The solicitation also promises major revelations in issue #2, though the publisher is holding back names: the text describes a character with a messianic presence, crackling with power like a young god as he descends to the ground, with carnage at his feet.
The comics arrive as the franchise expands on television. Hulu has officially confirmed a full series order for Ryan Coogler's X-Files reboot following a pilot filmed in May, with Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel in the main cast and guest appearances confirmed for Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi and Ben Foster. No release date has been announced, but Coogler has said the show will keep the original's format of a threat of the week paired with an overarching story. Dynamite's The X-Files #1 goes on sale December 9, 2026, with issue #2 following on January 13, 2027.
