A new event called the Nippon Anime Awards will take place at SGC Hall Ariake in Tokyo on November 21, 2027. The announcement was made during the Tokyo Anime Next event at Tokyo Tatemono Brillia Hall on Monday.
Organized by the Association of Japanese Animations, the event aims to establish a lasting anime awards program representing Japan. Its stated vision is to create an award with enduring significance and long-term recognition.
The announcement followed the special one-time Tokyo Anime Next event, held in Tokyo from October 30 to November 2.
The new awards arrive after the Tokyo Anime Award Festival announced in September that it had ended its events as of last March. TAAF 2026 was held from March 13 to 16. The festival began in 2014 as an independent event and held 13 editions, evolving from the Tokyo Anime Award, which was part of the Tokyo International Anime Fair from 2002 to 2013.
