Prime Video has secured a global hit with the release of Apocalypse Z: New World, the sequel to its 2024 post-apocalyptic zombie film. While the original movie, Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End, was an instant success that became one of the most-watched international Originals on the platform, the follow-up has achieved even broader reach by altering its narrative format. Premiering on October 30, just ahead of Halloween, the sequel climbed to the number one spot in 28 territories within two days according to FlixPatrol, though it did not top the charts in the United States.

The original 2024 film centered on Manel, a man living in isolation with his cat Lúculo following the death of his wife during a global pandemic that turned people into violent creatures. The story concluded with both characters being extracted by helicopter. In contrast, Apocalypse Z: New World shifts away from Manel's individual journey to focus on an ensemble cast based on author Manel Loureiro's novels. Directed again by Carles Torrens with a script by Ángel Agudo, the film premiered at the Sitges Film Festival on October 10 before its streaming debut.

The sequel expands the scope of the franchise following a phone warning from Manel's sister, Belen, advising him not to travel to the Canary Islands. The narrative now takes place in Europe, which has become the last refuge after the outbreak of the TSJ virus. The plot follows a special mission sent to the mainland to search for vital supplies, where the team faces hordes of infected and internal divisions caused by Roberto, a member with questionable intentions. The story poses the question of whether characters should save themselves or risk everything to preserve remaining humanity.

Although Manel does not return, his cat Lúculo, played by Pedrito, makes a reappearance alongside other returning cast members. Jose María Yazpik returns as Pritchenko, a key ally searching for an escape route, and Berta Vázquez reprises her role as Lucía, a nurse barricaded in a hospital under constant threat. The new ensemble includes Carlos Alcaide, Julia Martínez, Mónica López, Tamara Casellas, Santiago Vaca Narvaja, Axel Medrano, Pedro Hernández, Javier Godino, Ujin Moreno, and Mario Mayo. Produced by Adrián Guerra with a runtime of 119 minutes, the film is currently streaming on Prime Video.
