Romelia War Chronicle’s fifth episode combines a flashback to the campaign against the Demon King with the ongoing battle against the lizardmen. The earlier scenes reveal that Romelia and Prince Henri once shared a genuine connection, with Henri recognizing the tactical value of her advice. Elizabeth’s arrival also presents her as a more calculating rival than initially expected, adding new weight to the story’s earlier “rejected by the prince” premise.
In the present, Romelia and her soldiers remain outmatched and isolated. Ray is struggling with guilt after his mistake contributed to Al’s injuries, while Administrator Serbeck appears to be waiting for Romelia’s company to be destroyed rather than sending help. With no reinforcements in sight, the group must rely on its own judgment and determination to survive.
Romelia once again proves that her greatest strength is not direct combat but leadership. She motivates her soldiers, communicates her plans effectively and is willing to use a firmer approach when necessary. Her efforts include forcing Al to take unpleasant healing herbs, underscoring how determined she is to bring every member of her unit through the battle alive.
Ray also learns that one serious mistake will not automatically make Romelia abandon him or send him into danger as punishment. Her confidence comes from both her plans and her belief that she can protect the people under her command. The episode leaves open the possibility that future battles will force her to make more difficult choices, since she cannot simply undo the consequences of a soldier’s death.
The episode ultimately gives Ray an opportunity to recover without turning the battle into a major loss for the central characters. Al and Ray survive, and the knights gain access to new spellcasting abilities that help secure a victorious outcome. The review also notes somewhat more consistent production values this week, even though the animation remains the series’ weaker element.
After five episodes, Romelia War Chronicle is presented as a promising fantasy adventure with strong writing, effective character development and enough momentum to suggest a longer-term story.
