A new Star Trek crew is embarking on a perilous journey in Star Trek: Zero Point, an IDW Publishing series with a premise that echoes the high-stakes isolation of Star Trek: Voyager. Raffi Musiker, known from Star Trek: Picard, takes command of the U.S.S. Endeavour for a classified Starfleet assignment with potentially life-or-death consequences.
The first issue went on sale October 14, following the September 23 debut of IDW’s ongoing Star Trek flagship title. Zero Point is written by Charlie Jane Anders and illustrated by Isaac Sánchez González. Its second issue is scheduled for December 2.
The mission centers on Sybil, an advanced AI installed aboard the Endeavour. The system can predict threats and directs Raffi and her crew, but the assignment raises doubts about whether they should trust the machine. The series’ setup includes a starship graveyard on a moon and a mission that could affect the Federation’s future.
The second issue’s preview describes Raffi’s crew being sent deeper into danger as they search for a hidden artifact. Sybil says the artifact is necessary to prevent the Federation’s destruction, while officer D’Vana Tendi suspects the AI is leading them into disaster. The crew is also unaware that artificial intelligence initiated their mission.
A further preview places Raffi beneath the hardening ice of a mysterious planet as she attempts to reach the artifact. How Zero Point connects to IDW’s main Star Trek series, which features Captain Seven of Nine, has not yet been established in the available information.
