Shinchosha's Kurage Bunch website confirmed on Friday that the creative team behind Sugar Apple Fairy Tale and Brave10 is reuniting for a new project. Writer Miri Mikawa and artist Kairi Shimotsuki will launch their latest manga, titled Ryū no Kuni Gensō (Dragon Country Fantasy), on November 24.
The story takes place in Ryū no Hara, a realm dedicated to safeguarding the slumber of dragons. In this world, women who cannot hear the voices of dragons are despised as "Yūshi" or wanderers, while men with the ability to hear them are also detested. The narrative follows Hiori, whose older sister was killed under the label of a Yūshi. Driven by a desire for vengeance and to rewrite the country's laws, Hiori disguises herself as a man to reach the imperial throne. There, she marries Haruhana, the former emperor's daughter, who harbors a significant secret.
Mikawa previously co-created the Sugar Apple Fairy Tale light novel series with artist aki in April 2010, concluding the run with its 17th volume in February 2015. The original novels received a collector's edition for their first three volumes between December 2022 and March 2023. Yen Press holds the license for both the light novel series and Yozora no Udon's manga adaptation, while the property inspired a two-cour anime in 2023.
Shimotsuki is well-known for the Brave10 manga, which was adapted into a television anime in 2012. Crunchyroll streamed the series during its original run, and NIS America released a Blu-ray disc box set in 2013. More recently, Shimotsuki concluded the Arthur Bright manga with its fourth volume in June 2019 after launching it in Tokuma Shoten's Comic Zenon magazine in May 2017. Additionally, the artist finished the Sabiiro no Armor: Reimei (Rusted Armors: Dawn) series in May 2022, following its debut in Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Gene magazine in May 2021.
