The Eternaut is expected to return to Netflix in 2027, with its second season in advanced development and planned to expand in both budget and scope. The series is based on the 1950s comic of the same name and debuted in 2025 with a six-episode first season.
Netflix is investing more in the next episodes after the show drew strong viewership and critical acclaim. The series received a 96% critics’ score and an 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, according to the source. Netflix approved the second season shortly after the first season’s release.
Francisco Ramos, Netflix’s vice president of content for Latin America, said work is already underway on technical elements and visual-effects concepts. He said filming dates have not yet been set, and described the new season as substantially larger than the first in budget, scope and conception.
Netflix initially planned for Season 2 to conclude the story, but is now discussing how it could continue with a potential third season. Ramos said the company is working out how to deliver the planned second season while leaving room for the story to continue.
Set in Buenos Aires, The Eternaut follows survivors after a deadly, toxic snowfall begins falling on a summer night. Those who come into contact with it die almost instantly, and the survivors eventually learn that the catastrophe is the first stage of an extraterrestrial attack. Season 1 is available to stream on Netflix; Season 2 is expected in 2027.
