Attack on Titan 3 is set to arrive seven years after Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle, and producer Hideo Suzuki says the wait stems in part from the scale of the story the team chose to tell. In an interview with Crunchyroll, he described the upcoming game as a reboot that covers the anime’s narrative from its beginning to its conclusion.
The earlier games adapted story arcs from the first three seasons of the anime. Attack on Titan 3 instead returns to the attack on Eren’s hometown and retells the larger story through a customizable, original player character. Suzuki said the team had considered adapting the anime’s newer seasons, but concluded that material alone did not provide enough content for a 20- to 30-hour game.
The developers reshaped key story events around the player character and added original sub-stories and events. Suzuki said the game will retain recognizable moments from the final season, while presenting them differently from the anime. It also features a new opening sequence produced by MAPPA and directed by Arifumi Imai.
The team is also adjusting the gameplay to serve both experienced players and those focused on the story. The game’s difficulty has increased, but story mode will include support options, including controls designed to be easier to use and some combat actions that happen automatically.
Attack on Titan 3 is scheduled for release on December 10, 2026, for PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
