Goldar, one of the original villains from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, is taking a strikingly tragic turn in BOOM! Studios’ Power Rangers: Green. In the issue, he wants Tommy Oliver to know he has returned for a rematch with the Green Ranger, but hopes the fight will be the last of his life.
The story follows Tommy as he prepares for another confrontation with the Unmade, while his allies consider what to do next. Goldar’s request stands out against his familiar role as one of Rita Repulsa’s powerful enemies, known for his hatred of the Rangers.
The comic portrays Goldar as more thoughtful and calculating than he is often shown elsewhere in the franchise. But his apparent wish to die is a new and bleak development, reflecting the weight of the devastated future depicted in the series.
Issue #3, written by Pallie Paul Allor, with art by Gustaffo Vargas and lettering by Ed Dukeshire, also features Tommy, Mirella and Goldar facing a strange army of frog-like monsters in a marketplace. The issue is on sale now from BOOM! Studios.
