The Witch on the Holy Night anime film is getting a manga adaptation by Keigo Maki, known for Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie. Kodansha announced the adaptation in the 49th issue of Weekly Shōnen Magazine, with the manga set to debut in the magazine’s next issue on November 11.
A promotional video for the manga features Haruka Tomatsu and Yūsuke Kobayashi, who voice Aoko Aozaki and Sōjūrō Shizuki in the film. The movie is scheduled to open in Japan on November 20. A smartphone version of the original visual novel is also due to launch that day.
The story is set in the late 1980s and follows Aoko, one of two heirs to a family of modern mages. After being named heir to her family’s magical art, she begins learning magic under Alice Kuonji while continuing her role as student council president. She also meets Sōjūrō, a transfer student unfamiliar with much of the modern world, as tensions with her older sister Tōko develop.
Type-Moon released the visual novel on Steam in December 2023. Aniplex launched its PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch editions in the West in December 2022, the same day as their Japanese release; the editions have sold more than 150,000 copies worldwide.
