Johnny Depp says he is open to reprising Captain Jack Sparrow in a new Pirates of the Caribbean film. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight while promoting Ebenezer, he said he would be willing to return if producer Jerry Bruckheimer asked him.
Depp added that his interest would depend on the film finding the right way to conclude the franchise. He said he wanted to help send it off on a better note and described his relationship with Bruckheimer as a close friendship built on trust.
Depp played Sparrow in five films released between 2003 and 2017. During his 2022 libel trial against his former wife Amber Heard, he said Disney had shelved a planned sixth movie and described the decision as a betrayal.
Bruckheimer has previously said work on another Pirates film is continuing. Speaking to Deadline at D23 in August, he said the team was talking with Depp and working on a screenplay, adding that he hoped the project could be completed. Depp's comments show he is willing to return, but do not confirm that he has been cast in the sixth film.
