Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft adapts Azeroth for D&D’s 5.5e rules with a broad collection of player and Dungeon Master content. The sourcebook includes new subclasses, spells and species, alongside professions, magic items, monsters and adventures. Many of its options can be adapted for campaigns that are not set in the Warcraft universe.

The book introduces three “Hero Classes”: the Death Knight, Demon Hunter and Evoker, built respectively from the Paladin, Ranger and Sorcerer. Characters using these options begin at level 3 with a subclass selected. The book also adds six new subclasses and brings back others previously published, including the Swashbuckler Rogue.

Class-specific options include the Paladin’s Oath of the Ebon Blade, the Ranger’s Demon Hunter, two Barbarian paths, new Cleric domains and the Monk’s Warrior of Mystic Brews. The book also adds spells for several classes, with the largest selections going to Sorcerers, Paladins and Rangers. Its combat-focused options are largely new, though some concepts, such as the Death Knight, are closely tied to Azeroth.

Players can choose from a range of Azeroth species, including Dracthyr, Dranei, Earthen, Forsaken, Goblins, Pandaren, Tauren, Trolls and Worgen. Blood, Nightborne and Void Elves are also included, with options based on the elf choices in the Player’s Handbook and additional spells. The sourcebook’s species are presented as usable in other D&D settings, too.

World of Warcraft’s gathering and crafting systems appear as a D&D Professions system. Gathering options include Archaeology, Fishing, Herbalism, Mining and Skinning, while production professions cover activities such as Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Cooking and Engineering. The production rules provide more detail than the simpler gathering rules. The book also adapts items including Ashbringer, Frostmourne and Shalamayne, as well as Potions of Mana.

For Dungeon Masters, the sourcebook offers advice on adapting the structure of MMO adventures to tabletop play, along with campaign ideas based on conflicts in Azeroth. It includes several dungeons organized by level, among them Deadmines, Blackfathom Depths, Dire Maul and Onyxia’s Lair. These are redesigned for tabletop play rather than presented as direct conversions, and their encounters emphasize combat and exploration.

A bestiary provides monsters across a range of levels, while major characters such as Illidan Stormrage, Jaina Proudmoore and the Lich King Arthas appear as high-level stat blocks. The book also covers Azeroth’s history, regions and factions, though its location descriptions are mostly broad overviews rather than detailed city guides.

The sourcebook’s strongest emphasis is on new character options and material Dungeon Masters can adapt for other campaigns. While some content is specifically rooted in Warcraft lore, its species, dungeons, monsters and rules offer tools for games beyond Azeroth.
